Getting Acid
Reflux Relief Fast - Try Acid Reflux
Medication |
|
There are a number
different ways to treat acid reflux including some you may not
be aware of such as changing your posture and sleeping
position. However, I am sure you aware that acid reflux
medication is one of the ways that you can treat your
condition. These medications are available in your local
drugstores and supermarkets. There are different types of acid
reflux medications as we will see, and they work in subtly
different ways.
One of the simplest
medications to help you gain relief from acid reflux is
antacids. These work by neutralizing the acid in your stomach.
If you have a severe case of acid reflux you will want to try
the strong antacids such as Mylanta II, Maalox II or Riopan.
Antacids come in both liquid and tablet form and which you
choose to use is really down to personal preference. To get the
best effect from taking antacids you should take the dosage
shortly after eating meals and also before going to
bed.
In conjunction with taking
acid reflux medication, you should be advised to also keep an
eye on your diet. There are a lot of foods that are well known
to trigger the high acid production in your stomach that helps
to cause acid reflux. Many of these are probably your favorite
foods but as any diet consultant will tell you, everything in
moderation is okay. Foods such as high-fat animal and dairy
products, chocolate, citrus fruits and alcohol are among the
foods to reduce your intake of.
So, other than antacids
there are some other kinds of acid reflux medications that are
available. Some of these are known as histamine receptor
blockers and others are known as Proton-Pump Inhibitors and
both these types are quite effective. There are other types of
medication available which are able to help keep closed the LES
(Lower Esophageal Sphincter). This is the muscle at the base of
the esophagus which is supposed to only allow food to travel in
one direction towards the stomach. Drugs such as Prokinetic and
Motility are able to tighten the LES to ensure less acid is
able to get through from the stomach.
One of the side-effects of
having prolonged and persistent acid reflux is that your
esophagus becomes inflamed. There are drugs available that can
help to reduce the inflammation such as Omepraxole and
Lansoprazole. If none of the dietary changes or medications you
have tried is able to put an end to your acid reflux, then
surgery can be considered as a last resort. This may involve a
procedure to tighten the LES, however less than 25% of
sufferers require to undergo this.
In conclusion, acid reflux
medications are a great way to achieve fast-acting but
temporary, relief from acid reflux. Changing your diet and
lifestyle in addition to this should help to reduce your acid
reflux problems.
