What Is The Best Diet For Acid
Reflux?

Everyone knows that diet
is one of the key things to keep an eye on if you want to keep
your acid reflux under control. There are many recognized safe
and danger foods but what is right for one person may not be
right for another. You should therefore try and form a diet
that suits you.
If you read any good book
on what makes up a healthy diet you will find the advice is to
eat such things as fresh fruits, wholegrain bread, cereals,
legumes, vegetables and plenty of fiber. These also hold true
when trying a diet for acid reflux and you should base your
diet around these staples. I
One food in which there is
some debate regarding whether it is good or bad for acid reflux
is milk. Certainly, high fat milk should be avoided but usually
low-fat milk especially before bed can be effective. This is
because it is able to calm and coat the stomach. Although
perhaps not a long-term solution to acid reflux, drinking milk
should be considered as a quick way to combat bouts of high
stomach acid.
So, we have discussed some
of the safe foods that you should consider having in your diet.
Foods which should be moderated or eliminated altogether in
diet for acid reflux include coffee, citrus fruits and spicy
foods.
Another important thing to
consider is not just what you are eating but how often and in
what quantities. Many people feel that eating more, but
smaller, meals is a better option than the traditional 3 large
meals a day. This is of course, because smaller meals are
easier to digest and less likely to causes excess acid in the
stomach.
Fatty foods should be
moderated in any healthy diet plan, and diets for acid reflux
are no different. The problem with high-fat foods is that they
stay in the stomach for a longer period, and so more acid is
required to digest them. Alcohol should also be taken in
moderated doses and, certainly, binge drinking should be
avoided altogether as it can easily cause acid
reflux.
If you feel you need to
work out a specific diet then you should consider visiting a
nutrionist or dietician. Your local doctor would also be able
to give you some good advice on formulating an effective diet
for controlling acid reflux.
